Matchday 6 ⚽️๐
Welcome folks!!
So this is it, the group stage has ended and all verdicts were unfolded
๐งฎ
This is probably going to be my longest post cause I’ve a lot I want to comment on and talk about. Lemme rant group by group. PSG thrashed Galatasaray in France, showing us why they deserve to be champions of Europe. Cavani, Neymar, Icardi and Mbappe all scored in that game ⚽️๐งจ. Real Madrid worked hard in their match against Club Brugge and managed to earn victory, finishing second in Group A. Club Brugge head off to the Europa League while Galatasaray will have to wait until next season to enter another Champions League competition. ๐๐.
It’s impossible to be perfect in this world, but Bayern Munich showed us otherwise. They finished their group with 18 points, meaning they won every single game in their group. Truly remarkable ๐ฅ๐ฅ. Tottenham finished second to the German titans, they also played good football as well. There are claims Mourinho may win the Champions League with them ๐ค๐คณ๐พ, but time will tell ๐๐จ๐พ๐ป. Red Star Belgrade and Olympiacos didn’t have a lively game despite the trouble Olympiacos gave Tottenham and Bayern in previous matchdays. Olympiacos just edged their Serbian rivals by a single goal.
Group C looked like a walk in the park for Manchester City and they basically dominated it, but not completely. The Citizens did manage to dispatch Dinamo Zagreb with G. Jesus scoring a hat trick ⚽️๐ฉ. Man City needed this victory as they were on a bad run of form. Atalanta, in their first-ever Champions League, qualified to the Round of 16. Apparently they hit form after drawing with Man City in Italy (forgot the matchday ๐ ). See you next season Shakhtar Donestk ๐๐๐ฝ.
Juventus crushed any hopes of B. Leverkusen qualification when they beat the German team two nil and Atletico Madrid beat Lokomotiv in the other game. CR7 scored his 129th Champions League goal in that game ๐๐คฏ. Juventus won group D and Atletico were runners-up.
The European Champs, Liverpool, secured qualification by winning their last game of the group stage, beating an exciting Salzburg side for the second time in as many games (just two ๐). Mo Salah scored from the tightest of angles on his weaker foot, showing us why he’s a professional at what he does ๐๐ฝ. Napoli brushed away Genk four nil in Italy. Surprisingly, Carlo Ancelotti, the Napoli manager, was sacked by the club ๐.Odd ( they are actually not doing well in the League so....).
More crushing came in group F when Barcelona beatt Inter Milan and destroyed the hard work they made to get so close to qualifying. Borussia Dortmund took care of matters at home when they beat Slavia Prague two-one and secured qualification. To add on to the Barรงa game, Ansu Fati (who’s my age. 17 years old๐), scored the goal that sent Inter packing. It made him the youngest lad to score in the Champions League....
Group G was actually competitive if you look at it. RB Leipzig and Lyon were the teams to emerge from it. Benfica were eliminated before this matchday but took Zenit along with them as they thumped the Russian team three nil in Lisbon. Lyon and Leipzig played out to an exciting two-all draw.
Now to the last group, Group F, the group with my team, Chelsea ๐๐. It was good to see them qualify after they ‘held on’ to a two one win against Lille. Valencia shocked everyone after they beat Ajax in Amsterdam and knocked them out. Lemme repeat that, Valencia beat last season’s semi-finalists ๐คซ. Even Frenkie de Jong was upset. This group could’ve gone any way, as so was the case in the other groups, where it was tight at the summit.

Yohh. That was long ๐๐๐ but yahh I’m about to conclude this post. It’s been an amazing group stage competition for this 2019/20 season and I’m grateful to have witnessed it ๐. They’ve been crazy games, stunning results, heart breaking moments and respectful moments too. The unfortunate part in all this is that the competition resumes in February and yahh, it finishes later on ๐จ๐พ๐ป. The draw for the round of 16 will be done on Monday 16 December.
Well, that’s a wrap from me and I’ll hope to see you all in February. Happy holidays and a Happy New Year too ๐๐๐. See you next matchday ๐ฃ❗️⚽️
