Matchday 5 ⚽️๐
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen !!
It’s been 22 days since my last post, which ofcourse was when the last matchday ended.
The group stage is almost done and this round of matches didn’t excite too much ๐ . However, Mr R. Lewandowski scored 4 in 14 minutes against Red Star Belgrade ๐คฏ and placed himself as top scorer of the competition so far. Talk about exciting, Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side came from two goals down to defeat Olympiacos 4-2 and hand the new manager his second win at the helm ๐๐ฝ. Serge Aurier scored a fizzer in that one ⚽️⚡️. Alas to Liverpool and Chelsea as they both missed out on a chance to qualify to the round of 16 by sharing the spoils in their respective games against Napoli and Valencia respectively. They’ll have to wait until the next matchday to secure qualification (especially Chelsea ๐ฌ).
B. Dortmund were punished for their missed chances as they lost to Barcelona at the Camp Nou. Inter Milan did what they had to do and beat Slavia Prague away from home to keep their hopes high of qualification. Lautauro Martinez scored a cracking goal, beautifully set up by Lukaku in that game๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ. PSG will not finish with a 100% record in their group as Real Madrid scored two earlier goals before they eventually equalized in the latter moments of the game. Also, Salzburg put 4 past Genk and are the top scorers of Group E despite the presence of Napoli and Liverpool. They’ve been exciting to watch honestly ๐๐ฝ๐ฅ.
Dybala scored a good free-kick from a tight angle to give Juventus three points.
Like I mentioned earlier, this matchday probably didn’t give me as much talking points as I would’ve liked to have but it was vital to say the least. 8 teams have qualified for the last 16 and 8 others are still to qualify.
